How To Make Sure Your Logo Design Will Create An Impact

By Eliza Khan

Whether it is an international company or a small business, every company has to get a smart logo designed which would represent its philosophy. The logo must be visually appealing to the customer and should inspire quick brand recollection, and therefore it is always advisable to get it designed by a specialist logo designer.

As the brand identity of a firm would rest on logo design, the background and expertise of the logo designer should be examined comprehensively. He must have prior experience of designing challenging logos and must have immense potential for creativity. Moreover, he must be able to meet deadlines and incorporate your own ideas in the design.

There are some important aspects that define a good logo. There should be a proper combination of photos, colour and letters in the logo to make it visually attractive yet classy. The logo should be exclusive to help the firm stand out from the host of other brands operating in the market.

The logo design must not be abstract and appropriate to the essence of the company, so that the customers can immediately identify what it stands for. Moreover, it must have an evergreen quality so that you don't have to think of getting a new logo designed after a small period of time.

It is hard to gauge the efficacy of logo design. The true impact of a logo could take months to trickle down to increasing sales as the new logo will take some time to develop a connection with the customers.

However, this does not mean that it is impossible to predict whether the new logo will be successful. You can find out the consumers' likely reaction to the new logo design by doing market research. One way, which is usually quite effective, is to use the concept of a test market.

A test market is a very small segment of the overall market, where you can launch the new logo design, and then do a study to comprehend how people are reacting to it. By aggressively promoting the new logo in the test market you can make sure that you will not have to wait for a long time for people to begin recognizing it.

With this you can evaluate if there has been a rise in sales of your product in the test market, and whether the opinions of people about your company have altered since you began publicizing your new logo. If this experiment is found to have a positive change, you can be sure that your logo design exercise was successful.

What Makes A Good Web Design Company

By Abraham Shaw

Projecting the content of a website in an attractive way for online users is what web design is all about. It is a multidimensional field involving development of a layout, graphics and navigation schemes to improve the overall quality of a website.

The right design has to be envisaged so that the website can draw serious and potentially loyal visitors. Therefore it is essential that you pick a good web design company, and here are some factors that you must take into account to achieve that.

First and foremost, you don't have to restrict yourself to local companies. The internet helps you to reach a global market, so you can engage a firm that has its base in another city, or you may even opt for an overseas firm if you consider it suitable for your needs and if their rates are affordable.

To find a list of good web design firms you can conduct some analysis on the web. Blogs and forums will help you to find out the benefits and drawbacks of some of these well-established firms that have been in the market for a long time. You can also try to investigate who created that fabulous website that you might have suddenly come across while surfing the net.

When you come down to 3 or 4 companies after filtering out the rest, contact them and ask them about previous assignments they have successfully handled. Then observe the web designs of these sites and consider how close they come in appearance and use to the design features that you have in mind for your website.

There are several different technologies that help in developing impressive web designs such as HTML, Flash, and JavaScript. The company you engage must be able to handle all these technologies and related tools. Any of their claims can be verified by carefully looking at websites created by them in the past.

Then you have to check if the design company can complete designing your website within the time frame that you give to them. An indication of how much they would care for your time frames can be obtained from how the firm's employees talk with you, and how quickly and deftly they answer your queries.

Finally, you must study the price involved in engaging the web design company to do your designing. A fast survey of the prices of a few companies will give you a good idea of the present rate in the industry, but you can always negotiate with the company, taking advantage of the competitive market scenario.

Why Revamp Your Brand Design

By Bless Tan

A logo is an integral part of brand design and people often confuse the two as same. The truth could not have been farther from this. Brand designing has a role to play in almost all the touch points that a company has with its customers or partners, and it is crucial in determining the success of a company. If you feel that your brand is failing to convey a positive image of your company and products to the consumers, you must get your brand redesigned.

A good brand design covers all areas of a company's brand identity and its communication with external parties. It includes graphic designs for promotion materials, jingles in ad campaigns, the look and feel of the customer service office, the corporate website, and of course the logo.

Effective brand designing helps elicit a positive response from the customers. To create a good brand identity one needs to understand what the customer needs, how the company's offerings satisfy those needs, and how those products or services are better than the competition. This leads us to the importance of brand design consultants.

Brand design consultants are specialized professionals, who are trained in this area. They have to first conduct the basic analysis of a brand, including gauging its strength and the business' objective behind the overhauling exercise, understanding the current and future market situation, and the actions of rivals. After this groundwork is complete, the consultants focus on their real task - developing an appealing brand identity. This involves developing new logos and ads, and updating marketing materials and websites of the business to generate a fresh image.

In summary, it is not recommended to go for brand designing without taking the assistance of brand design consultants. Their creative excellence and technical knowhow are vital to developing a strong and successful brand.

The Arena Football League Reaches The End Of The Line

By Ross Everett

After canceling their 2009 season, the Arena Football League has shut down entirely and appears headed for bankruptcy. Earlier this week, the league office released a short statement indicated that it had ceased operations because owners were "unable to reach any consensus on restructuring the league over the past eight months." The league had reached a new agreement with players earlier this year, but was unable to convince enough owners that they had a viable plan to return to profitability. The leagues statement continued that there are no other viable options available to the league right now."

Even before the decision was made to cancel the 2009 season this past December, it had been a tumultuous off-season for the Arena Football League. It began with the resignation of long time AFL commissioner David Baker just two days before the Arena Bowl championship game. Though Baker put a positive spin on his resignation saying that he felt it was time, it didn't exactly send a positive message about the future viability of the league.

In October, the owner of the New Orleans VooDoo announced that the team would cease operations"despite being one of the league leaders in attendance. In announcing that the team would fold, owner Tom Benson (who also owns the NFL Saints) cryptically explained that it was due to circumstances currently affecting the league and the team."

A dispersal draft to reassign the VooDoo personnel was scheduled and postponed several times amid assurances from the AFL office that rumors of financial instability were unfounded.

The inability to get any consensus on a business model for the league reportedly served as the final nail in the AFLs coffin. A major problem was skyrocketing player salaries, and some sort of compensation system tied to team revenues was a necessity. That agreement was reached with the players, but a bigger conflict between the owners on a variety of business model related issues were never able to be resolved.

Despite the demise of the Arena Football League, it wont be the end of the road for the twenty two year old sport. The 50 yard indoor war lives on in the AF2 league which, ironically, was originally started as something of a developmental organization for the AFL. The league plays in smaller markets and has a more realistic salary structure. A number of current AFL players"and possibly a couple of AFL franchises"could end up in AF2.

Future Book Betting Pitfalls And How To Avoid Them

By Ross Everett

Betting on sports 'futures' is an enjoyable and potentially profitable way to wager, but there are several potential risks that can lead to losses. Here's a rundown of things to avoid:

Don't bet at the first place you look: In other words, shop around for the best price. This is essential to all aspects of sports betting, but especially important with futures wagers. You'll find more disparity between prices from book to book on futures than any other betting proposition. From a theoretical standpoint, a little work can yield much better value. From a practical standpoint, that means a higher payout should you win. The reason for this is that individual sportsbooks' aren't as worried about what the other guys are doing as they are with most other bets. Once the futures "market" is set books move the lines almost exclusively on their own financial position. The market simply doesn't respond as quickly to futures wagers as it does to individual game lines so it is essential to do the extra work to get the best price on your proposition.

Don't fixate on picking the winner from a competitive field: This may sound like strange advice, but from a theoretical standpoint it makes perfect sense. As with every other element of sport wagering its crucial to always focus not on winners and losers, but on the value you're getting on individual bets. For example, in most years there are several teams with a realistic shot of winning at the start of the NCAA basketball tournament. The problem is that these top teams invariably offer low paybacks that are less than their 'true odds' of winning. Every team is subject to the same variables like injuries, slumps, bad matchups but backing teams that are 'under the radar' at higher prices offer more compensation for these 'risks'.

In mathematical terms, we're simply not being offered odds on a favorite that offer a good value in comparison with the 'true odds' of the event occurring. Let's say we bet Duke at +200 to win the NCAA tournament. If we could magically play the NCAA tournament over 100 times, would Duke come out on top more than 33 times? If not, they're a poor value at the price. At a higher price, I might be interested but at +200 the value is simply not there.

Note that the more competitive the market, the more difficult it is to find good value on the favorites. Since you can make a case for quite a few teams to win the NCAA tournament at this point this particular futures market is clearly a very competitive one. In a less competitive marketplace it might be possible to "pick the winner" and have it be a good value though you will pay a price for this. Here's a (thankfully) hypothetical example: let's say the UFC decided to hold a one night round robin tournament with 5 competitors. Competitor #1 would be heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. The other four competitors would be professional figure skaters Elvis Stojko, Rudy Gallindo, Brian Boitano and Evgeni Plushinko. Even if he didn't bring his "A game", Lesnar would be essentially have a 100% certainty of beating the four untrained fighters, who also happen to be rather effeminate. If a sportsbook installed Lesnar as a -1000 favorite a bet on the 63 265 pound takedown would still be theoretically a good value. It's always difficult to risk so much to win a little, but from a strictly theoretical standpoint its a good play.

Don't try to make a huge profit with little risk: Sports betting provides few opportunities to make a 'big killing'. It may happen occasionally, but even the big payouts when it occurs doesn't make chasing big longshots a good value. If you're serious about sports betting it is crucial to maintain your focus on the underlying numbers and look for value at all times. If you want to take a longshot at a huge jackpot, play the lottery but don't try to do it at a sportsbook.

On a more theoretical level, a big price alone is no way to justify a wager. The concept of value works the same at the bottom of the barrel as it does at the top: make sure the price you're getting on an underdog accurately reflects their "true odds" of winning.

Don't bet one-sided futures or propositions: Though many of these are not futures per se, a lot of sportsbooks offer silly propositions on nonsport events as a way to get publicity, or just to be funny. Its important to make a distinction between this type of silly bet and more realistic nonsport propositions which frequently present good wagering value. Im talking the really outlandish stuff here. Not too long ago, a sportsbook posted a line on Martians landing on earth and painting the White House red by the end of the year. The "YES" was +2500 or thereabouts, which is far from reflective of the "true odds" of this unlikely event. Even if you're the type that collects classic Art Bell shows on tape and believes in UFOs you wouldn't place the probability of this happening at more than a fraction of a percent. The book only offered the "YES" side of the proposition, meaning that you couldn't lay even a huge price on the more likely outcome. Another book had a futures offering for what would happen first with Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. All of the options were very unlikely--Ashton and Bruce fighting on PPV and my favorite--and the longest odds--Ashton, Bruce and Demi hopping in bed together and releasing a porno video documenting the event. You'd receive a sizable payback if any of the events ever transpired, but I'm not exactly sure how to compute the "true odds" on "when pigs fly.

UFC 87 Flashback: Lesnar, GSP Steal The Show

By Ross Everett

The last time that Georges St. Pierre defended his UFC welterweight title, it quickly turned into the low point of his career. Already facing a number of personal issues away from the cage, he looked sloppy and distracted as Matt Serra defeated him by brutal TKO. This time, things were different as GSP brutalized Jon Fitch over five rounds to win an easy unanimous decision. The judges scores of 50-43, 50-44, 50-44 underscored the one sided victory.

After a dominant takedown to open the fight, followed by a barrage of GSP punches it looked as if Fitch wouldnt make it out of the first round. He managed to survive, though generated little offense the rest of the way as the champion had his way with him both on the ground and in standup striking exchanges. Fitch landed enough counterpunches to open a cut near the champions eye, but never even came close to winning a round. Fitch had to gut his way through another tough moment in the 4th, where a big knee followed by a flurry of kicks and punches had him on the verge of a TKO loss yet again. It may have been the champions strategy that saved him, as GSP decided to take Fitch down again rather than continue the striking onslaught as the round closed.

As the final horn sounded, GSP bowed down in front of Fitch in a nice, Muay Thai inspired show of respect. In yet another moment that is thankfully commonplace in fighting and all too rare in other sports, Fitch and GSP sat knee to knee in the center of the cage congratulating each other for over a minute as their respective cutmen worked on their wounds. The sportsmanship and mutual respect continued after the decision was announced, when Fitch embraced GSP and hoisted him into the air in celebration. To paraphrase HBO boxing announcer Jim Lampley there is no sport like fighting, and there are no athletes like fighters.

And theres very likely not another athlete like Brock Lesnar even within the ranks of fightsport competitors. In his 3rd professional MMA bout the amateur wrestling legend turned WWE champion displayed a brutally effective new fighting style along with stellar patience and cage control as he obliterated tough and highly experienced Heath Herring. Lesnar received a thunderous ovation from his adopted home state as he entered the cage to the sounds of Motley Crues Shout at the Devil.

From that point forward, Herring was completely out of the fight though he repeatedly demonstrated his toughness by staying in the fight and not tapping out to strikes as had Min Soo Kim in Lesnars MMA debut. Unlike Lesnars gameplan against Frank Mir in his UFC debut"when he clearly wanted to overwhelm his opponent for a quick win"perhaps the most impressive element of his improvement as a fighter was his patience. There were a number of occasions where Lesnar could have tried and finished the fight by placing himself at greater risk, but took the conservative approach. The result is a fight style that is almost frightening, with Lesnar able to leverage his world class ground control skills"along with his downright indefensible takedowns"to keep his opponent under control while he imposes his will using his size and strength and does damage with his massive hands and knees.

Overall, Lesnars performance bordered on amazing"a serious case could be made that he won all three rounds by 10-8 margins, though all three judges scored the fight 30-26. He repeatedly took down and threw around the 64 250 Herring like he was a welterweight, and controlled the fight to such a degree that his opponent didnt land more than a half dozen strikes during the entire fight"and none which were particularly effective. A few more metrics to put Lesnars dominance into perspective"Herring hasnt been dominated to such a degree in his entire career which comprises 42 fights against opponents like Fedor Emelianenko, Vitor Belfort, Mirko Cro Cop and Antonio Rodgrio Nogueira.

Lesnars win gives a much needed boost to the UFCs barren heavyweight division. While it may be premature to consider him a top 10 heavyweight, should Lesnar continue to develop his potential in the sport is limitless.
